SYNOPSIS:  The financial giants, Black Rock and Vanguard, biggest ExxonMobil shareholders led the shareholder rebellion, along with major Pension/Retirement funds, and activist shareholders, forcing the oil giant (against their will) to report on the impacts of climate change.

 

LAWSUITS:  This in the midst of pending lawsuits to hold ExxonMobil accountable for suppressing their own critically important scientific research which, in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, warned that 80% of all oil reserves must be left in the ground to avoid catastrophic climate change.

 

SURPRISING VOTE:  Last year all 4 climate resolutions lost by a wide margin… this year, on the day trump announced his decision to pull the US out of the global Paris Climate Accord to keep temperatures from rising above 2 degrees C, the climate resolution won 67% to 33%.  A stunning victory.
